Meet Dr. Kyu

Endodontist Pye P. Kyu, DDS, MSD

dr-pye-kyuDr. Kyu (pronounce Q) was born in Yangon, the capital city of Myanmar (formerly Burma) which is the most western country of Southeast Asia. At the age of 10, his family up-rooted and moved half way around the world to Kingston, Jamaica. He spent his growing years there and completed high school before coming to Chesapeake, VA at the age of 17. He attended Old Dominion University (ODU) and graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biology. During the early ODU years, he started volunteering at the Norfolk Red Cross Free Dental Clinic which kindled his interest in dentistry. He received several awards from the Red Cross in recognition for his efforts and commitment to the clinic thorough out the undergraduate years.

He then went to Richmond to VCU School of Dentistry (formerly Medical College of Virginia) and completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2006. He was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) Dental Honor Society limited to 10 esteemed students chosen by faculty. To further his dental skills and knowledge, he pursued a one year residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) at VCU. While in AEGD residency, he elected to commit to pursing endodontics. He was accepted at VCU Endodontic Program and extended his stay in Richmond for 2 years where he earned his Endodontic Certificate and Master of Science in Dentistry.

Upon completion of his 7 years in Richmond, he decided to return home to Chesapeake to start Hampton Roads Endodntics. He follows the philosophy of treating others as how he would want to be treated, with compassion and care.

Dr. Kyu is a member of American Dental Association (ADA) , American Association of Endodontics (AAE), Virginia Dental Association (VDA), Tidewater Dental Association (TDA), and Burmese-American Dental Association (BADA). Also, he is currently an adjunct faculty at the VCU Endodontic Residency Program where he spends one day a month with the current residents in the clinical setting.

When not providing care for his patients, Dr. Kyu enjoys travelling, playing tennis and golf, and supporting his English soccer team Liverpool.
